Marina Andreyeva

Marina Andreyeva was born in Moscow and began her musical studies at the Gnessin Music School, where she first studied piano before focusing on voice. She then entered the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where she studied voice as well as choral conducting. While still a student, Marina began performing in various concerts and festivals in Moscow. Upon graduating with honors, she entered the Gnessin Music Academy, where she actively participated in the academy's opera studio and continued to refine her craft.

Following her studies at the Gnessin Academy, Marina participated in both the "New Names" International Program and the Russian Culture Fund, leading to performances throughout Russia and in Europe. A performance in Rome led to a scholarship to study at the Vienna Academy of Music, where she performed in numerous opera productions - including a well-received performance as the Queen of the Night in Mozart's Magic Flute. Upon returning to Russia, Marina became a regular vocalist with the Moscow State Philharmonic, allowing her to work with such esteemed Russian conductors as E.Grach, K.Orbeljan, A.Vedernikov, G.Rozhdestvensky, M.Rostropovich, and others. She also worked regularly with the Helikon Opera - which is likewise featured here at the Classical Archives.

Marina possesses a beautiful coloratura soprano voice with an impressive range of 3 1/2 octaves, as well as consummate technique and a strong ability to identify with the characters she portrays. Her dramatic skills have even led some critics to compare her to the famed French diva Sarah Bernhardt! Her large repertory includes major roles in some fifteen operas - including the roles of Olympia in Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, Lulu in Berg's Lula, the Czarina of Shamakhan in Rimsky-Korsakov's Le Coq d'Or, the Nightingale in Stravinsky's Nightingale, Sepina in Pergolesi's La serva padrona, and Zerbinetta in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos.
