Mark Belodubrovsky

Mark Belodubrovsky was born in Briansk, Russia, and began studying violin in his home town before moving to Leningrad in the early 1960s to study at the Conservatory with Prof.V.I.Sher, S.Ya.Volfenzon, and later with Prof.Orest Evlahov. While still a student Mr. Belodubrovsky began performing as a soloist with the Briansk Philharmonic, and soon thereafter became a professor of violin, chamber music, theory and composition at the Briansk Conservatory. He is a member of the Union of Russian Composers (since 1972) and an Honored Artist of Russia (1984). He has been quite active in promoting contemporary music, as the leader of the "Apodion" Club (since 1978, aimed at synthesizing Apollonian and Dionysian principals in art), and as the organizer of the Nikolai Roslavets International Music Festival (since 1986).

As a performer, Mr. Belodubrosky has toured throughout Russia and abroad. As a composer, he has written in numerous genres, and his works have been performed in Moscow as well as New York City (Lincoln Center, for the "Bridge" series). Mr. Belodubrowksy often incorporates some element of folk material, keeping a balance between traditional and modern elements. He is also an author, with articles published in Russian and American journals.
