Moscow Armenian Chamber Chorus
Moscow Armenian Chamber Chorus

The Moscow Armenian Chamber Chorus was founded in 1989 by conductor Nelli Andriassian, with great assistance from the Armenian Union of Composers - then headed by Edward Mirzoian. The chorus was formed in part to help revive Armenian culture among the large expatriate communities of Russia, and has since evolved to cover the broad spectrum of both Armenian and Russian choral music. The chorus is currently associated with the Armenian State Philharmonic.

The extensive repertory of the Chorus includes Armenian sacred music from the 4th to 20th centuries; Armenian classical and folk music; Russian sacred music; Russian classical and folk music; and Western European sacred and secular works - ranging from Schütz and Bach to Verdi and Gounod.

The chorus gives regular concerts in Russia and Armenia, and has toured in Sweden, Syria, Lebanon, Slovakia, and Cyprus. They have also participated in numerous international music festivals, two under its direction. In addition, they have organized charity concerts in stricken areas - such as in the earthquake zone in Armenia, and the area of Russia affected in the Chernobyl accident.

The chorus has thus far produced four CDs - including the first complete recording of the Komitas Patarag, and we are delighted to feature their wonderful and spiritual recordings here at the Classical Archives.
